What Do You Call The Worst CW Operator In A Radio Contest? Tell Me The Answer In Code & I’ll Never Know…CQ WPX CW 2022

For one, its almost midnight. Look at all of those signals on the data portion of the 20M band!!! I may actually be a believer in Solar Cycle 25. I am not shocked. A few nights ago, this is what my ZachTek WSPR unit looked like on 20M.

So I put about an hour and a half into the CQ World Wide WPX CW contest and made 7 contacts, 5 on 40M and 2 on 20M. That is N1MM+ logging software and Fldigi decoding for me in the background. You’ll notice that decoding with Fldigi is NOT idiot-proof… But it does help me out immensely.

And if you look closely at my qso log, you’ll see the last contact I made at almost 11:30pm local time (ET), was with Spain! So darn cool! Seriously, Spain, at almost midnight on 20M!

There really is a strong chance I am the worst CW operator in the contest. But…

I am in the contest.

    1. Jay, I have made so few of them, that I really do find them oddly exhilarating. I really like contesting with them. And some day I need to go do a 7wpm POTA activation.

      So glad you had more pizza! It was awesome hanging out with you and Ame! I am looking forward to the next one!

      1. Awesome! POTA broke the CW barrier for me. Pi highly recommended POTA to gain confidence and skill with CW. He is correct! The hunters have great ears, are patient, and will repeat and slow down as needed. And the exchange is minimum.

        Let me know if you want to schedule some over the air CW practice QSOs.

        1. Jay, even better, you, Ame, Marc, and I should go do a POTA on the shore or something. Maybe when the craziness of the early summer slows down.

            Pi did a K1USN POTA at Webb Mem park, late summer or early fall last year. I think it was on parks appricaton day or something.
