With Love From South Boston: The ARRL DX SSB Contest

You remember that my non-resonant off-center fed dipole antenna runs along a privacy fence, barely 5 feet above the ground, and surrounded by triple deckers right? And then has a 125 feet run of lossy RG8X coax back to my shack’s standard 100 watt HF radio? Not to mention the giant noise floor of living in the middle of a big city… Well, then what the heck business do I have getting fifty-one DX contacts on 10, 15, and 20M from the QTH? I sprinkled in about 4 1/2 hours of radio time Saturday and Sunday with zero intentions of contesting…yet here I am racking up QSOs from at least 27 countries. (Just like a cellphone, right? When was the last time you talked to the Galapagos??!)
