Commitment-Phobe: My New Ham Radio Mobile Installation

Just wait until I add a linear to this thing…

Mindy,
If you want a nice NMO mount with a 1/4 wave 2m antenna in the roof of your van, I have the special drill bit. Stick a nice VHF Motorola Spectra in the truck and work all over NE!
Dave
Dave, I don’t have the guts to do it!!
I am actually going to bring the Spectra with me on a SOTA one of these days. When the weather gets warmer.
I would love to activate VHF with a 100 watts from a hill top!
I did finally turn it on, and was amazed at all the stations in it. When I figure this whole mobile thing out, I probably will tuck it in the van.

Once you do a roof top vehicle antenna, you will wonder why you waited! I plan on drilling my truck roof in the Spring, as I miss the last vehicles roof mounts performance. On a van you probably won’t notice it until you enter a parking garage and “thwang!” But a real radio and rooftop antenna is great. My plans are for four soon. 900 Mhz 3” whip, 144/440 19” coil whip, 10m base load and 6m base load. When I sold my last suv, I left the cables under the front matt and screwed on black covers on the three NMO mounts. Didn’t make a diff in trade-in as dealer thought they were sat antennas. After you drill the first one, the rest come easy. FYI, the Spectra you have is 50 watts. They do make 100 watt models but they are much bigger with remote heads only. Spectras are Great! 73 and see you on the Hill
We’ll see Dave, we’ll see… I have the 85W linear coming this week for my HT. I plan on never trading in my van, so I am not too worried about that aspect of it. Who would want it, lol!?!
The Spectra is quite awesome! I think 50W would do just fine! See you soon!
