SOTA QUICKIE: FT8ING FROM THE WACHUSETT MOUNTAIN SUMMIT PARKING LOT
Feeling lazy, AA1F and I drove up Mount Wachusett W1/CR-001. The summit parking was nearly empty, and we went no further. AA1F stuck his magmount 17 foot whip on the roof of Limey (my van of course). Nellie (our dog) was with us. As was Officer Clyde, the newest feline member of the household, on his first adventure.
It was nearly 90°F. We threw open all the van doors. AA1F quickly jumped on 20M on his Yaesu 891 set-up on a little portable table.
I strung up my 40M EFHW DIY antenna quite sloppily, with the free end less than 15 feet in the air, and the unun tied to a pipe wrench and just laying on the ground.
You can see it a bit better below.
I used the Yaesu 991A with a computer to run FT8, for my first digital SOTA activation. I also chased some of the 13 Colonies Annual Special Event. And I completed the POTA activation of Wachusett Mountain State Reservation K-4368.
So just a quick little SOTA activation to share!
Yours,
