Quicky But Goody: Stony Brook Conservation Land Amateur Radio Direction Finding Fox Hunt
The NEMass Fox Hunters were at it again with a hidden transmitter. This time at the Stony Brook Conservation Land in Westford MA. What an interesting piece of land. That I have never heard of.
As usual, we arrived to the park fairly late in the afternoon. I was using my newest fox hunting set-up, the Arrow handheld 2M yagi with a toggle step attenuator. Read more about it here.
Importantly, it was one of Georgia’s (our new puppy) first outdoor adventures with us. She did (reasonably) great!
And once again, AA1F was able to “sense” where the fox was. He claims it is because he can detect disturbances in the environment around him. But I wonder if he has an RF receiver tucked in his brain. The toggle step attenuator worked remarkably well and got us into the right spot despite the challenges of the hilly terrain and bodies of water. Took us quite a while to find, about an hour and a half.
Thanks NEMass Fox Hunters for taking the effort to put out some hidden transmitters! Also, I do continue to think that the toggle attenuator is a great tool for amateur radio direction finding.
Truly,
